James 'ReKab' Baker, the British producer whose work bridged tech-soul,
electro and the 'Artificial Intelligence' school of IDM, left behind a
catalogue of music that travelled quietly but widely. His records for
Distant Worlds, Yore and Analog Concept sold out fast, and his death in
August 2025 cut short a trajectory that felt carefully plotted. This 2020
album, first issued digitally via Iceland's Moatun7 and now re-pressed on
vinyl by System One, captures him in lockdown seclusion. The remaster by
Justin Drake sharpens its contours. Crisp drum programming meets gently
cycling basslines on 'Analogue Isolation', while tracks such as 'Artificial
Dreams' and 'Home Sequence' glow with glassy pads and lucid, rather tender
melodies. It is inward-facing, yes. Also exacting.
