Luca Lozano brings his unmistakable style to Phonica with
the Da Vinci EP, a four-track collection that highlights
both his love of vintage hardware and his instinct for
addictive dancefloor grooves. Written during sessions in a
now-disappeared basement studio, the EP carries a raw,
playful energy that constantly shifts between house, techno,
trance and UK club influences. "The Magnificent" opens with
a massive hook, fusing house swing and techno aggression
into a blistering groove that makes it the jumping off point
for the EP. "Delta Force", inspired by classic Korg gear,
pushes the tempo further with euphoric energy that edges
close to trance while still retaining Lozano's house music
foundation. "Eau De Dave" has to be heard to try and
understand. The herkie jerky rhythms, fidgety textures and a
dirty groove recalls micro-house and French house
experimentation. It's a unique track that shows Luca pushing
the extremes of house music. Closing track "Crunchy Nut"
lightens the mood with a live bass feel and jazzy touches,
driving the spirit of early UK tech house with loose,
infectious charm. All and all, one of the more unique
records we have heard in a long time.
